Thousands demonstrated in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, on November 18th and throughout the week, fueled by a variety of grievances, said Ezili Dantò, of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network. “They were asking for an end to the U.S. occupation, behind UN guns and private military subcontractors; they were asking that the militarized, Ferguson-like police stop killing the people; and they were asking for mock elections not to continue in Haiti, but for real elections to be held , freedom for the political prisoners and an end to the Martelly-Lamothe puppet Haiti government.

November 18 in Haitian history:
Forward, Forward, Forward! To Arms, Charge on! We will not be defeated
211-years ago, on November 18, 1803, at the decisive Battle of Vertières the Haitian revolutionary army, under the leadership of General Jean Jacques Dessalines, attacked the French troops until the Haitian warriors had forced the whites enslavers to surrender. All Haitians were heroes that day. All humanity made progress that day, and indeed, the Haitians taught the European enslavers that slavery is not civilized. Two centuries later, the arrogant and hate-filled Euro/US white settlers have yet to recover and accept this Haitian lesson. But Haitians soldier on, alone, outgunned and outnumbered; facing the wrath of almost all the nations and nationalities, but charging forward, forward, forward in a hostile American Mediterranean ruled by the former enslavers.
The white settlers and former slavers constantly want to wipe away from human history Haiti’s victory at the battle of Vertieres. They support what Colin Powell once called “thugs, criminals and thieves” in Haiti. But still no matter how many coup d’etats the Euro/US bring to Haiti, Dessalines law cannot be unstated. Kapwa Lamò’s courage cannot be erased. MariJann (Marie Jeanne)’s fierce fighting, will and determination cannot be overturned. The Haitian Revolution refuses to be wiped out by neocolonialism.

On November 18, 1803, General Francois Capois, known as “Kapwa Lamò,” one of Dessalines’ most trusted generals, fighting at the head of the Haitian Ninth Brigade colored himself in glory for his amazing bravery on horseback and on foot with his saber at the Battle of Vertières. Legend has it that at this greatest battle ever fought on this planet for human freedom and dignity, a bullet passed through General Kapwa Lamò’s cap, but he urged his men and women forward. A canon detonated the ground beneath him leveling Kapwa’s horse. Other canon fire, other bullets, dust, flying objects and shrapnel nicked Kapwa Lamò all over and his cap flew off, but Kapwa Lamò just kept on getting up each and every time he was knocked down, charging on foot, flourishing his saber and leading his men onward with his continuing cry of “Forward! Forward! Forward!”

The French general, Rochambeau, was so impressed; he stopped the firing and sent an emissary forward with compliments to the valiant general who had just covered himself in such glory. Then the battle recommenced, ending only when the Haitian warrior forces, headed by the indomitable General Janjak Desalin (Jean Jacques Dessalines), had beat back the most powerful of European armies to create the nation called Ayiti. (See Dr Professor John Henrik Clarke on the French terrorist, General Rochambeau and a little known truth hidden by the Mulattoes who wrote Haiti history.)
On this November 18, 2014, Haitians, currently under Euro-US-led UN occupation, remember these heroes of the Haitian revolution. Remember Kapwa Lamò, Jean Jacques Dessalines, Bwaron Tonè, all the Maroons, Grann Guitonn, Grann Toya, Marijann (Marie Jeanne) at Crète-a-Pierrot and how the Haitian identity and indomitable courage was forged out of the fiery crucible of war against white terror, tyranny and enslavement. Each November 18th, free Haiti celebrate Vertieres, the last battle of the Haiti Revolution and say to all the traditional “white saviors” and their Haiti stooges:
Free Haiti are the descendants of and behave in the manner of dignified of Janjak Desalin, Grann Toya, Grann Guitonn and Cecile Fatiman’s descendants: Haiti, the Rebel.
“Alone I have paid and paid…
I have paid the endless price.
…With a burning spear
Stuck in my chest.
Sometimes it weakens me
But I always rise
High above the pain
And the wickedness
Of powerful forces
From near and far
To claim my dignity.
I have friends
Who suck up my blood…
From my wounded heart.
Though today I choose to stand
And stand in pride and love
With my dear family
To celebrate in harmony
Our common history
In the month of February
I was alone when in Vertières
I rose to face the Devil
When hell broke loose
Unleashing its fire storm
With waves of flame rushing
To engulf me whole…
Alone in the vast universe
I froze hell over
And walked on its ashes
To create my own history.
Nobody stood by my side.
I alone remember.
It was the eighteenth day
Of a month called
November. “
But, this, this greatest story never told, this Haitian David vs. Goliath struggle we are living with, its ultimate lesson – the ruling metaphor of Haitian history will be that we burnt the port cities and retreated inland, for when the time arrives for the world to understand what was held in sacred trust for all of humanity to reclaim, after the vampires and parasites are marginalized, their energies balanced and redeemed. Kreyòl pale, kreyòl konprann. You have your colonies, we have ours. One day at the Great Crossroads, this Battle will end, and we’ll all meet then”¦” -Ezili Dantò, The Haitian struggle – the greatest David vs. Goliath battle being played out on this planet, 2006

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress. In the light of these ideas, Negroes will be hunted at the North and held and flogged at the South so long as they submit to those devilish outrages and make no resistance, either moral or physical. Men may not get all they pay for in this world, but they must certainly pay for all they get. If we ever get free from the oppressions and wrongs heaped upon us, we must pay for their removal. We must do this by labor, by suffering, by sacrifice, and if needs be, by our lives and the lives of others. – Frederick Douglass
“No negro leaders have fought for civil rights, they have begged for civil rights. They have begged the white man for civil rights, they have begged the white man for freedom, and any time you beg another man to set you free, you’ll never be free. Freedom is something that you have to do for yourselves. And until the American Negro lets the white man know that we are really ready and willing to pay the price that is necessary for freedom, our people will always be walking around here second class citizens or what you call twentieth century slaves. The price of freedom is death.” — Malcom X
