Thousands demonstrated in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, on November 18th and throughout the week, fueled by a variety of grievances, said Ezili Dantò, of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network. “They were asking for an end to the U.S. occupation, behind UN guns and private military subcontractors; they were asking that the militarized, Ferguson-like police stop killing the people; and they were asking for mock elections not to continue in Haiti, but for real elections to be held , freedom for the political prisoners and an end to the Martelly-Lamothe puppet Haiti government.

Forward, Forward, Forward! To Arms, Charge on! We will not be defeated

211-years ago, on November 18, 1803, at the decisive Battle of Vertières the Haitian revolutionary army, under the leadership of General Jean Jacques Dessalines, attacked the French troops until the Haitian warriors had forced the whites enslavers to surrender. All Haitians were heroes that day. All humanity made progress that day, and indeed, the Haitians taught the European enslavers that slavery is not civilized. Two centuries later, the arrogant and hate-filled Euro/US white settlers have yet to recover and accept this Haitian lesson. But Haitians soldier on, alone, outgunned and outnumbered; facing the wrath of almost all the nations and nationalities, but charging forward, forward, forward in a hostile American Mediterranean ruled by the former enslavers.

The white settlers and former slavers constantly want to wipe away from human history Haiti’s victory at the battle of Vertieres. They support what Colin Powell once called “thugs, criminals and thieves” in Haiti. But still no matter how many coup d’etats the Euro/US bring to Haiti, Dessalines law cannot be unstated. Kapwa Lamò’s courage cannot be erased. MariJann (Marie Jeanne)’s fierce fighting, will and determination cannot be overturned. The Haitian Revolution refuses to be wiped out by neocolonialism.

On November 18, 1803, General Francois Capois, known as “Kapwa Lamò,” one of Dessalines’ most trusted generals, fighting at the head of the Haitian Ninth Brigade colored himself in glory for his amazing bravery on horseback and on foot with his saber at the Battle of Vertières. Legend has it that at this greatest battle ever fought on this planet for human freedom and dignity, a bullet passed through General Kapwa Lamò’s cap, but he urged his men and women forward. A canon detonated the ground beneath him leveling Kapwa’s horse. Other canon fire, other bullets, dust, flying objects and shrapnel nicked Kapwa Lamò all over and his cap flew off, but Kapwa Lamò just kept on getting up each and every time he was knocked down, charging on foot, flourishing his saber and leading his men onward with his continuing cry of “Forward! Forward! Forward!”

The French general, Rochambeau, was so impressed; he stopped the firing and sent an emissary forward with compliments to the valiant general who had just covered himself in such glory. Then the battle recommenced, ending only when the Haitian warrior forces, headed by the indomitable General Janjak Desalin (Jean Jacques Dessalines), had beat back the most powerful of European armies to create the nation called Ayiti. On this November 18, 2014, Haitians, currently under Euro-US-led UN occupation, remember these heroes of the Haitian revolution. Remember Kapwa Lamò, Jean Jacques Dessalines, Bwaron Tonè, all the Maroons, Grann Guitonn, Grann Toya, Marijann (Marie Jeanne) at Crète-a-Pierrot and how the Haitian identity and indomitable courage was forged out of the fiery crucible of war against white terror, tyranny and enslavement. Each November 18th, free Haiti celebrate Vertieres, the last battle of the Haiti Revolution and say to all the traditional “white saviors” and their Haiti stooges:
