Cynthia Verna Speaks Out Against 60 Year old Deputy arrested for violating an 11 year old girl

On February 24, 2017, 60-year old Jean Baptiste Anthony Dumont, an ex-Parliamentarian and highly respected academic from a well-known family, was arrested for sexually abusing the 11-year-old daughter of his mistress. Cynthia Verna calls for justice for the little 11-year girl, allegedly abused by the ex-Deputy.
The abuse of children by pedophiles in Haiti, both foreign and domestic, is massive. The leaders in Haiti society generally ignore it or even enable it. The mother of the victim is getting pressured to drop the case by high-level politician friends of the abuser and the alleged abuser himself, according to reports.
In this video, Cynthia Verna, who is herself a survivor of sexual abuse, talks about how rape, sexual abuse and pedophilia is so widespread that even market-women trying to put their children to school are burdened with sexual bribes. Fathers are having children with their own children. She specifies a case where when one abuser was caught he migrated to Brazil, for instance, in order to avoid prison and punishment. She points to those with societal approval and money as the biggest pedophiles.
Ms. Verna passionately tells of another instance in Miami where a mother trusted her 8-year-old daughter with a Pastor and he abused her. He’s in jail now. She hopes he gets deported.
“I want to cry. I want to yell. I want to take all the men who are raping innocent children, shake them…make them feel what it’s like to be violated; what it feels like when you have a gun put to your head and can’t defend yourself… give the death penalty to all pedophile child abusers…”
She says for every three females in Haiti, at least one has been raped. For every four Haiti males at least one has been violated. But society blames the victims. Ms. Verna tells the little girl “not to hate herself. You’re not to blame… thank God you’re still alive…God will give you courage and strength.”
